K. S. Radhakrishnan, who trained under Ramkinkar Baij in Santiniketan, is regarded as one of the foremost sculptors in the country. He created two alter-ego personalities, the thinly-fluted male Musui and female Maiya, who are sometimes rendered androgynously to reflect both characteristics together. This bronze sculpture catches Musui in a dance move, in which he is defying gravity and also seems to be in a trance in the way his head is thrown back and limbs are in consonance with the lyricism of the movement. The tall cylindrical pole on which he is balanced adds magnificence to the composition.
