This pristine landscape is a reminder of the effective and elegant handling of light, colour and form by K. C. S. Paniker. It is also an ode to the rural environs and bucolic surroundings of Indian village life which the artist depicts by way of canals, coconut groves and paddy fields. Rendered overarchingly in shades of blue, it depicts the backwaters of Kerala with boatmen embarking on a journey, people carrying goods on their heads, and a wooden bridge stretched across a stream.
