Influenced by the European masters, especially Paul Cezanne, K. C. S. Paniker creates in this still-life composition an intense engagement with colour. Though his later paintings became far more complex, this early work allows the viewer to understand the artist’s training in academic realism and the derivative streams of modernism that followed. The vivid, vibrant palette is particularly pleasing given the subject of the composition, indicating the artist’s willingness to grow beyond the rules governing its genre.
