Badri Narayan believed that art had healing qualities and through much of his work, that’s exactly what he wanted to achieve. Past and present, memory and imagination, all diffuse, seeing ‘time as a fabric with strange rips and twists’ as noted art critic, curator, and historian Ranjit Hoskote observed of the artist’s work. Be it still-life, landscapes or other genres, Narayan’s success lay in subverting the conventional notions of art and creating them afresh, imbuing them with a visual language that was uniquely his own.
