V. A. Mali had shared a friendship with Squadron Leader Kamal Anand’s father and this Untitled painting bearing the same name shows Mali’s affable side as he agreed to paint a portrait of his friend’s son. The painting, in fact, brings out the steely resolve and the handsomeness of the uniformed man. The artist captures in vivid details the khaki-coloured uniform complete with the army insignia and other accessories, which Mali paints in detail. Painted in the style of academic realism, the work shows Mali’s command on the paintbrush.
