Baburao Painter was one of the most progressive artists of his time, dabbling not only in fine arts but experimenting in film direction, theatre, scriptwriting, and acting. The self-taught artist painted his own film posters, some of which were later displayed at Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay, under the guidance of Gladstone Solomon. V. A. Mali paints the legendary artist, capturing sincerely the handsomeness and the regal look of Painter’s face, complete with spectacles and the flowing but well-maintained beard.
