Foremost among those who aspired to engage in the quest for spiritual abstraction in printmaking were Kanwal Krishna and his wife, Devayani. The duo made a significant contribution to the early days of printmaking in Delhi. Among the first artists from India to learn printmaking techniques at Atelier 17, Paris, Krishna’s experiments in viscosity continue being regarded as a benchmark in printmaking. Spirit of the Unknown exemplifies his dedication to the genre, showing remarkable finesse and a synergy between colour, technique and form.
