Bhupen Khakhar explored his sexuality within his work, often including himself in many of the scenes while gauging the ‘emptiness of people’s lives’ as art critic Timothy Hyman noted. Having experimented in various mediums, Khakhar here reveals, quite possibly, another autobiographical element wherein a man, part shadowy, is sharing an intimate moment with a woman while another fully-clad woman looks on. The sexual exploration for the man is more discomforting, one can tell, giving a sense that he’s uneasy in the act and fears being judged.
