Though much of Prokash Karmakar’s paintings were centred on projecting the plight of women, he was well known for his landscape paintings rendered as a joyous celebration of colour and line. All his paintings were informed by bold lines/outlines, but unlike his bleak commentaries on society, his landscapes were an ode to nature’s placid beauty. In these, no storms raged, the fields were unruffled, and a feeling of mellowness suffused them.
