Prokash Karmakar’s exploration of the inner and outwardly visible worlds of women were often hard to decipher, even though he left behind clues for imaginative conjectures. In his paintings, the woman was depicted as a victim of patriarchal subversion. No wonder this work is not intended to be either sexual or even sensual. That said, it shows Karmakar’s success as an artist with masterly control over his use of colours in his brushstrokes.
