This Untitled gouache and watercolour painting captures the bare branches of Amaltas or Indian laburnum tree. The tree lights up the scenery with its mesmerising golden yellow blooms, its leaves swept away by some storm. The predominance of brown in the picture hints at the arid state of the land, parched of water due to the summer heat, eagerly waiting for the monsoon when both the earth and the tree would be rejuvenated. The sky, too, seems bleached, in keeping with the general theme of the season.
