Around the 1890s, numerous printmaking studios were established in Calcutta, each working with different artists to produce images on similar themes. The union of Shiva and Vishnu (Hari Har Milan)- two of the most prominent deities in Hindu mythology- is a recurrent subject in many of the lithograph prints made by these studios. The iconography is equally inspired by western elements, like the pseudo-angelic forms in the background.
