Maniklal Banerjee excelled as a watercolourist on cloth, and this is a captivating example of his style where he gives the cubist treatment to the subject. He presents a wide-angle view of the hamlet and sundry activities around the cluster by folding up the rows of houses upon themselves. The central focus of the work, as of the hamlet, is the shared ground along whose edges the houses are located. It contains a pond with lotus blooms, a banana grove along one edge and a small temple at one end indicated by red cloth, where clay idols are discernible.
