Undoubtedly one of the most gifted artists of the neo-Bengal school, Radha Charan Bagchi’s creative imagination found its material in the country’s ancient literary traditions and epics, its historical and mythological texts and in Bengali folk-stories. In Santal Boy, however, Radha Charan Bagchi creates an imposing work featuring an ordinary Santhal tribal person. In a nod to British art schools’ academic realism style, Bagchi explores the strength of the medium by showing masterful control on colour and posture of the figure.
