Even though H. V. Pedersen may not have painted this oil en plein air, as was popular among the impressionists in Europe to catch the changing gradations in light, this work bears all the notions of such paintings. The façade of the fort is impressive, yet, less outstanding than the effect of the sharp desert sunlight falling on its various elements, accentuating the whiteness of the pillars supporting the doorway. He imbues the work with a dreamy quality with his hazy brushstrokes that speak to the joys of enjoying the outdoors.
