Painting was an emotional experience for F. N. Souza, and the strong, energetic brushstrokes in many of his paintings, particularly landscapes, conveyed his radical ways to look at art from a personal perspective. This landscape in a warm colour palette from the Sixties shows Souza’s rich influence of his favourite western masters such as Vincent van Gogh and Chaïme Soutine. The buildings in the painting lean close, almost huddled in a passionate embrace, while trees give an impression of swaying gently, almost in a rhythm that’s synchronised.
