To mark the closing of The Body of the Ascetic, curator Gayatri Sinha joins us once again on 18 October 2025 and takes us through the representation the figure of the ascetic over the last three hundred years in different facets, as he appears as mystic, wanderer and performance artist.

An ambitious and thought-provoking exhibition that explores the visual representations of asceticism across the Indian subcontinent, The Body of the Ascetic upholds Indian art’s storytelling tradition by delving into the age-old institution of asceticism while weaving scholarship and a rare glimpse into the subcontinent’s ancient and deep-rooted engagement with ideas of sacred discipline, austerities, practice and renunciation.
