This is a beautiful example of the vibrant portraits of women of rural Telangana—from where Thota Vaikuntam hails—that the artist has made his signature with great success. Wearing a nose ring, jewels in her hair and bangles on both her arms, the woman in the picture strikes vitarka and abhaya mudra with her right and left hand respectively, symbolising wisdom and fearlessness. However, far more striking is the turmeric paste and vermilion bindi on her forehead and alta (ritualistic red pigment) on her palms that allude to her sexuality, also reinforced by her ample bosom.
