Thota Vaikuntam’s women, whether portrayed solo or in groups, stand out not just for their bright attire and jewellery but also for their statuesque figures, alluding to the hard labour they undertake in fields yet pay attention to how they turn out. In giving them a layered personality, the artist imbues them with boundless allure. He has said: 'I love my women. They are my knowledge'. In this Untitled work, all the familiar tropes the artist uses to create these beautiful figures are present—dotted pattern on her saree, vermillion and turmeric on her forehead and alta (ritualistic red pigment) on her palms denoting fertility and sexuality.
