This lyrical, late work, titled Ballerina, sways to the rhythmic beauty of the life force. A pure modernist work, it shows the dexterity of Amar Nath Sehgal in executing a melodious piece without any formal training in creating art—he was an engineer by training and studied art education in New York. The tendril-like form is a universal symbol of beauty and harmony in nature, which Sehgal’s experience—both, working with folk artists in India for a decade and then travelling extensively through Europe—bore out fantastically.
