The rope bridge across the Ganga was the principal way in and out of the city of Srinagar in Garhwal. The Daniells described it as crowded with people fleeing the outbreak of hostilities with Kumaon, and feared it would break under the strain, but their calm depiction of it portrays none of the panic they recorded.
