The Siege of Seringapatam that ended on 4 May 1799 marked the end of Tipu Sultan and the long-drawn campaign of the East India Company in the South to tame the most ferocious of its Indian opposition. This event elicited popular visual representations by artists, the most seminal of which remains this engraving attributed to a painting by Henry Singleton. It’s a highly animated rendition of the final battle of the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, showing full fury of the war with weapons flying and dust rising up in the background.
