Talk | The Delhi Silpi ChakraMarch 20, 2026, DAG, 22A Windsor Place, Janpath, New Delhi Art historian Atreyee Gupta joins us on 20 March 2026 for a talk that traces the Delhi Silpi Chakra’s emergence from the upheavals of Partition, exploring how displaced artists forged a collective, civic-minded modernism in post-Partition New Delhi. Specializing in global modernisms, with an emphasis on the aesthetic and intellectual circulations that shaped Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America from the twentieth century onward, Atreyee Gupta's research addresses decolonization, Cold War geopolitics, and transnational artistic exchange, with particular focus on India. Developed in close dialogue with her scholarship, Drawing a Nation: The Delhi Silpi Chakra addresses a significant gap in art-historical discourse by foregrounding the institutional frameworks that nurtured artistic exchange outside established structures. |
