The figures featured in this Untitled painting are rendered in the classic Haku Shah-style, elongated, conveying a strong presence and a sense of monumentality without being imposing. Borrowed from tribal iconography and pictorial traditions, we find a crescent moon beaming over a desert against which three figures are grouped in a flat, continuous arrangement. The simplistic figuration allows for a tender moment to be experienced—the family consisting of a man, woman and girl-child playing a flute, resembling votive clay figurines.
