By the time Paritosh Sen made this Untitled portrait, he had gained myriad experiences to distil an independent language which had moved away from his earlier sombre view of societal concerns along a satirical path that mocked middle-class values and pursuits. In between, his Madras art school training had also been chiselled with stints in Paris and New York. The crux of this charcoal work lies in the face of the figure, who, with his disinterested stance, is almost a caricature and appears incongruous in his imposing attire of turban and angarkha kurta.
