A part of the group of seventh-century, rock-cut Panch Rathas at Mamallapuram is here seen from the north-west (two of the rathas are out of the view, to the left). Situated not far from Madras, the temples and carvings at Mamallapuram were known to antiquarians but had never been so accurately depicted.
