Constantly painting and repainting, Mohan Samant would work without any theme in mind, arriving at what he wanted to convey towards the end, just as he was about to finish. Black Moon, one of his earlier works, shows how much texture mattered to Samant. To him, it was integral to his artistic vision wherein he conveyed a sense of ancient times and a uniqueness in his art. The scruffy texture of Black Moon recalls the rough surfaces of rocks or weather-beaten walls.
