The present work exhibits Khagen Roy’s skill in using colour and simple brushstrokes to create a composition. The artist creates a feeling of depth and gives an aerial view impression of the large figure of Shiva as against the relatively smaller but nonetheless detailed figure of Parvati. The influence of Pahari miniature painters, in particular, can be seen in this work with the artist rendering the painting with a great degree of finesse. Roy’s command over mythology, the miniature tradition and the mural style of Ajanta was commendable.
