In a stunning colour palette depicting pink skies, a blue cliff and brown rocks surrounding it, Nicholas Roerich paints a mystical imagery, which could be either from his imagination or from a lived experience where the artist, possibly, saw the colours of the skies change to impart a soft glow on the mountain. The work is an enigma, created from a rare sensitivity that combines Western academic realism with an innate, personal visual idiom that defined Roerich’s rich landscapes.
