Bindu et Arbres in French, or bindu (the dot signifying the seed) and trees, is an exquisite work by one of India’s grandest masters of abstraction, S. H. Raza. It’s rare because Raza hardly ever explored the third dimension in art, and is an expression of his most famous series, the Bindu. The dot was Raza’s pivot for his well-delineated exploration of tantric abstraction. On this vase, the dot at the centre signifies the genesis of all birth with the concentric rings signifying growth or germination. The shimmering blue alludes to the earth where man and nature have had a primordial connection since the advent of time.
