Baburao Painter’s painting of the goddess is from his own creative lens, seeing her, quite possibly, as a heroine from his mythological films. Dressed in a sleeveless blouse and a red saree with a gold border, wearing ornaments, including a gold crown, Painter’s Lakshmi sits comfortably on a lotus with a halo adding a glow to her face. The artist, however, succeeds in giving the goddess figure a human touch by showing her stance as one that’s not strictly god-like but more humane, more gentle.
