In Sunayani Devi’s style of painting, historians have traced diverse influences: the Bengali pat paintings, Mughal and Rajasthani miniatures, the frescoes of Ajanta, and the work of certain medieval Italian painters. This work showing three female figures depicts a shy bride being teased by her friends before her groom arrives. Since Sunayani Devi preferred to paint mythological subjects, one wonders if this is a scene of Sita with her sisters just before her wedding to Ram?
