Kolkata Exhibition Walkthrough | Destination India: Foreign Artists in India 1857–1947March 29, 2026, The Alipore Museum, Kolkata In collaboration with Kolkata's Alipore Museum, DAG invites you to a walkthrough with Giles Tillotson, SVP, DAG, as he examines the varied and complex representations of India through the works of British and other European artists. Fellow (and former Director) of the Royal Asiatic Society, Giles Tillotson is currently Senior Vice President at DAG and has curated Destination India. His specialisms include the history and architecture of the Rajput courts of Rajasthan and of the Mughal cities of Delhi and Agra; Indian architecture in the period of British rule and after Independence and landscape painting in India. Destination India: Foreign Artists in India 1857-1947 uncovers a forgotten archive of painters and printmakers in a fast-changing India and breaks new ground by focusing for the first time on this later period of foreign painting in India, and by adding the Indian chapter to the larger story of Orientalist painting.
