This landscape by an unknown artist in the impressionistic style uses the modernist trope to divide it up into three distinct parts—the forested groves in the topmost segment in which a house nestles; a middle area with its manicured fields suggesting a taming of the land in part of which women can be seen tending to the fields; and the lowest segment, running diagonally, that seems to consist of untamed wilderness. The light tones of the painting seem to suggest spring. Seemingly naïve, the painting is a sophisticated glimpse of the Indian countryside.
