A rooster seems to have wandered in from the courtyard in a village home where a charpoy leans against a wall and an earthen pot sits on the floor. Broken pieces of pottery, a loose feather and the rooster’s panicked expression attest to its attempt at escaping from a window where broken rods act as barrier from which it is unable to make its way out of the room. Besides the technical finesse, M. A. R. Chughtai brings out the fear of the bird through the expression successfully.
