Even for individual practitioners like Amalnath Chakladhar who did not strictly follow the tenets of the Bengal School, it wasn’t apparently easy to remain uninfluenced. Here is another ode to the school of painting that shaped an important narrative of Indian modern art in the first half of the twentieth century. This Untitled work looks like a page from a classical fable, where different beings inhabit the hollowed-out trunk of a giant tree. The muted shades and their rendition in what looks like a simulation of the wash technique lend it a harmonious elegance.
