Even though Abani Sen loved to paint animals and birds, he represented many subjects during the course of his career. After the War represents Sen’s strength in strong brushstrokes, a vivid colour palette and an intense imagination that allows the viewer to immediately get engaged with the work. It shows creatures of the Canidae family devouring the remains of dead bodies, sitting atop what appears to be carcasses of, quite possibly, people. This is what, according to the artist, is ultimately left of any violence, any war.
