The view shows a small three-bayed mosque without a courtyard, built in the Deccani style. Such mosques would have been ubiquitous throughout the kingdom in Tipu’s time. This rare watercolour was not engraved as one of the plates for Hunter’s Picturesque Scenery in the Kingdom of Mysore (1804-05; see cat. nos 56 to 73).
