This is the stepwell adjoining the dargah of Nizam al-Din Auliya, built by the saint’s followers during the reign of Ghiyas al-Din Tughluq. Legend states that the Sultan, keen to make rapid progress on the building of his new fort, Tughluqabad, ordered the masons not to work for the saint; so they built the fort by day and the well by night.
