Prabhakar Barwe’s art has been labelled post-progressive, pre-contemporary, neo-tantra, abstractionist, as well as symbolic. During various phases in his career, he found inspiration in Paul Klee, the purush-prakriti duality in tantric philosophy, as well as different modes of abstraction. In this late work, Barwe challenges the viewer to think beyond the expected. A disparate group of images—a bull’s head, objects, buildings—come together in unusual scale and size, thereby changing the dynamics of their existence vis-à-vis each other and in relation with the viewer.
