This photograph shows a full-length portrait of the Maharaja of Baroda, Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III, seated on an armchair. He wears a light colour achkan with embroidered designs, light coloured trousers, diamond necklace and rings, dark coloured shoes, and the Order of the Star of India. The rulers of the princely states were mandated to wear their state jewels and formal dress during the Coronation Ceremony. The golden cannon belonging to Sayajirao Gaekwad was displayed at the Durbar Amphitheatre, positioned on a cart drawn by bulls. However, it is interesting that someone who was bestowed with so many honours at the Durbar of 1911, violated the social code of conduct and made headlines in the press.
