Dharmanarayan Dasgupta’s definitive style, in his own words, brought together elements of ‘satire, fantasy and humour mixed with folk art’. The surreal vision of his works translated as bizarre images on the canvas in a unique colour palette that bridged the gap between the real and the unreal. These were images, as reflected in Head-Y, with severed body limbs, hollowed eyes, and sharp features that were often expressionless. Mostly, the images floated mid-air, suspended in a manner to convey a sense of predicament and an uneasiness to the viewer.
