A talented artist who worked across mediums, Ramendranath Chakravorty specialised in printmaking, a subject he also taught at the Government School of Arts and Crafts in Calcutta, where he gave tremendous fillip to the genre like his pioneering predecessor Mukul Dey. His ability to modulate depth and the use of light were his strengths and he used them to advantage to turn the mundane into works of art. An example is this Untitled etching, where the rather prosaic image of a woman painting at home is turned into something exceptional that deserves a second look.
