This is an illustration of the festival Durga idol prepared by Nritya Lal Datta for the Jorabagan press. The five gods and their vahanas are placed at appropriate heights on a stage, with Mahisasura being vanquished beneath Durga’s feet. The image is detailed with floral and vine patterns. The chalchitra framing the deities is supported by pillars and curtained archways. The black print was hand-tinted with red and blue pigments, plausibly with cotton swabs, and so the colours have bled through the outlines.
