This placid work is an excellent sample from Indian abstractionist Rajendra Dhawan’s oeuvre. Even as Dhawan sidesteps all language, symbolism and meaning, his works are rich in the possibilities offered by colours used in melancholic harmony. All of his works engage with viewers wholesomely, allowing them to enter it through multiple avenues. Prabhakar Kolte explained that Dhawan ‘painted what he sensed. Space, air and other occult things were his enduring themes’, and one wonders what the artist has painted in this instance.
