This Untitled work presents palpable tension between the contrasting colours evoking the viewers’ inner conflicts and seeking a resolution at the subconscious level. The white lines penetrating the earthy expanse, represent a metaphysical sexuality and yet again signify germination or birth. The white break in the muddy plane of the work may be seen as a disruption in the ego or self to bring one closer to the cosmic reality, though through aesthetic pleasure. Critic Donald Kuspit refers to some of Qadri’s works as depicting ‘a conceptual sexual intercourse’ and this work may be seen as one such example.
