For spiritualist-artist Sohan Qadri, it was not just the visual plane of the painting but the process of creating that plane too that was an exercise in meditation. The meditative aspect of the work was reinforced with the repetition of perforations in a rhythmic pattern, as in this Untitled work. The quiet expanse of the white with its floating lines is brought to life with bindus. The dots represent life, or perhaps a spiritual awakening that sears through the ignorance of being. As explained in the Mahasukhaprakasa: ‘The void brings forth the seed; this develops into the mental representation; this concretises externally, and from it springs all that is conditioned-in existence.’
