The tented camp as viewed from the Ridge. A handwritten inscription on the back reads – “Site for the new capital”. More than one observer imagined the new capital, what was to be New Delhi, rising on this very spot. Before the Emperor and Empress left Delhi, they laid foundation stones here, though these were eventually moved, when a new site for the city was found around Raisina Hill.
