Splash

At a time when printmaking was a fledgling art in India, Krishna Reddy opened unexplored avenues in technology and presented innumerable possibilities in the realm of colour printmaking. In his prints, Reddy assimilated influences from his experiences in London and Paris working with different master-artists. His deeply engraved copper plates have a sculptural feel to them with varying reliefs and textures that rise or recede from the surface, with sharp, curved and edged lines. For the artist, more important than any subject or image was the life force that binds the universe together, and this work, Splash, is an embodiment of that force. His themes, whether drawn from nature or otherwise, have been etched with remarkable clarity and an amazing wealth of visual detail is often built in his works.
