Please join us for the opening of Typecasting: Photographing the Peoples of India, 1855-1920, an exhibition showcasing one of the largest collections of colonial ethnographic photographs of the diverse peoples of India, spanning geographies and cultures. Curated by Sudeshna Guha, the exhibition shows the ability of photography to create—and to challenge—typologies. The photographs displayed here reveal how unstable social categories can be, despite their role in creating them in the first place.
